Dubrovnik has been on my list of must visit places for years. I was so excited to discover it listed on our itinerary.
This year we decided to do a two week Mediterranean cruise. We’ve cruised before. It’s great bang for the buck when you’re limited to two-week vacations. Usually, you get to see lots, hit many destinations, eat good food, and enjoy wonderful evening entertainment. This ship becomes your floating home for a week or two and you are treated well. You can plan and do as little or as much as you want to.
Our first stop on this 11 day cruise was Dubrovnik, Croatia. European cities are fun to explore on foot so we caught a shuttle bus to the Old Town and started walking.
Called the pearl of the Adriatic, it’s truly a wonder to behold. Stone streets trod by feet instead of tires. You walk down the main street and see lots of little alleyways that climb, climb, climb.
The buildings are stone with terra cotta tile roofs. A warm and earthy combination.
I was excited to climb the wall and walk the circumference of the town. And it did not disappoint. The wall is about 2kms in length with amazing views both in and out of the town.
It’s an impressive walk and it’s equally impressive who you find up there. Like the man going along with his walker. How did he climb the stairs?!
The ground is uneven and there are sections with a good many stairs. Some narrow and high. It’s not for the faint of heart. I’m told that those with a fear of heights felt a little weak in the knees from time to time.
When asked where I’d like to go back, Dubrovnik and Croatia are high on my list.
