The other day I was looking at some hashtags used by a dietitian I follow on Instagram. Yes, I do that.

As I work on changing my normal, I want to absorb every little piece of information I can get my hands on. I like to load up.

She used #intuitiveeating

Huh? What is this thing called intuitive eating?

I started googling it and looking at blogs that talk about intuitive eating.

At-first-glance, the concept of intuitive eating is to trust your body to tell you when, what, and how much to eat. You do this instead of using external rules and cues to regulate it.

I don’t know about you but I find this a little scary…and liberating!

A lot of blogs talk about this book: Intuitive Eating: A Revolutionary Program that Works

If more than one dietitian is talking about it, it has got to be worth a look.

The 10 principles of intuitive eating

  • Reject the diet mentality. Check! I’m so over dieting.
  • Honor your hunger
  • Challenge the food police
  • Make peace with food
  • Respect your fullness
  • Discover the satisfaction factor
  • Honor your feelings without using food
  • Respect your body
  • Exercise – feel the difference
  • Honor your health

Yes, yes, yes! This is exactly what I’ve been looking for since I started this no more diet journey. Can’t wait to dig in deeper.

And yes, I am struck by the idea that somehow intuitive eating is apparently not, well, intuitive.
