There are a lot of places in this world that I absolutely love. But none like Bermuda. Home during my formative years, this island holds a special place in my heart.

Dad was in the Canadian Air Force and we were lucky enough to be posted to there for a few year. I started school on this island and some of my first memories are from here.

My Bermuda was full of kite festivals, swimming lessons, beaches, gingham school uniforms, and first kisses.

Me in Bermuda as a kid

I get homesick for this island and have been back a few times. Most recently with my husband on our honeymoon.

Things to do in Bermuda

Here are some of my favorite things to do when I go “home”.

Bus in Bermuda

Ride a pink elephant

We called the local buses Pink Elephants when I was a kid. I don’t recall why. Maybe because they were pink? Visitors often rent mopeds to travel around the island. While it’s a small island and easy to navigate the roads are made from coral. Meaning life long road rash if you fall. The local transportation go everywhere, are easy to use and include the Pink Elephants and ferries. I highly recommend them.

Beach in Bermuda

Bermuda pink sand

Visit one of Bermuda’s pink beaches

Bermuda sand is a unique combination of coral and shells. Absolutely beautiful and surprisingly soft. There is also some really fantastic snorkeling if that is your thing.

Fish in Bermuda

Lunch at the Swizzle Inn

An island staple, they have the best wings. The Swizzle Inn is also well known for an island drink called the Rum Swizzle.

Me in St. George's Bermuda

Stockade in Bermuda

St. Peter's Church

Walk around St. George’s

The first English settlement on the island there is lots to see. Visit St. Peter’s Church and watch a reenactment of an 18th Century trial.

Bermuda moongate

Walk through a Moongate

Legend has it that if you walk through a moongate holding hands, you’ll have good luck. You can find these gates in public parks, at the Dockyard and as entrances to private homes.

Visit the Crystal Caves

Go underground to see amazing formations and a crystal clear lake. Crystal Caves inspired one of my favourite Jim Henson shows growing up, Fragile Rock.

Sail around the island

Wether by public ferry or a glass bottom boat, this island has so much beauty to see. You can’t go wrong visiting here.
